At 3 kilometers from Q'enqo in the direction of Pisaq, at the edge of the road, the fortress guarded the access to the capital and to Tambomachay nearby. It is part of the circuit of the 4 ruins. Etymologically, the "Red Fortress" was a military and administrative control center. It is also thought that the place was intended to receive part of the court of the Inca when he went to Tambomachay. The rooms, with trapezoidal openings according to the Inca codes, offer a beautiful view of the valley and the snowy peaks in the distance.
