As long as you live an exceptional adventure, this one will remain engraved in your memory, because it joins two inescapable Inca fortresses of the region and follows a demanding Inca Trail that very few take. We advise you to go through a recommended agency and expert in trekking/expedition.
Depending on the version, this trek lasts between 5 and 7 days of walking, the last one being dedicated to the icing on the cake: Machu Picchu! Here the version of one of the most serious agencies, Yunka Trek (http://yunka-trek.com).

Day 1: Cusco - Cachora - Santa Rosa

Departure from Cusco by private vehicle to the village of Cachora and then the Capuliyoc pass, starting point of the trek (2 800 m). First test, a descent of about 4 hours to Playa Rosalina, located on the banks of the Apurimac River, at an altitude of 1,400 meters. Cross the bridge over the Apurimac River and then climb to Santa Rosa Alto (2 hours). Camp.

Day 2 : Santa Rosa - Marampata - ChoquequiraoA climb

to Maranpata (2,850 meters). From there, after an hour and a half walk on flat ground, we arrive at the camp at the foot of the Choquequirao site (3,030 m). Visit of the site in the afternoon, the ushnu and the white lamas. Camp.

Day 3: Choquequirao - Pinchahuniyoc - Rio Blanco - Maizal Departure

to the Choquequirao pass. Long descent in the valley of the Rio Blanco, until the vestiges of Pinchahuniyoc: this set of terraces, ritual fountains and canals is still part of Choquequirao, which testifies to the exceptional size of the site. Then, we will go to the Rio Blanco (1 800 m) to go back up on the opposite side and set up the bivouac in the high part of the hamlet of Maizal (2 900 m).

Day 4: Maizal - San Juan Pass - Yanama

Difficult ascent to the San Juan pass (4,200 m). Exceptional view on the summits of the Vilcabamba mountain range. Then descent into the Yanama valley (3 500 m) under the benevolent eye of the Nevado Pumasillo

Day 5: Yanama - Santa Teresa - Hidro Electrica - Machu Picchu Pueblo

Transfer to Santa Teresa. The hot springs in this village are the most welcoming in the region. Arrival at Hidro-Electrica and then walk along the railway to Machu Picchu Pueblo after a 2h30 hike (flat).

Day 6: Machu Picchu Pueblo - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco

Day dedicated to the visit of the major archaeological complex of Peru, rediscovered "scientifically" in 1911, by the American anthropologist Hiram Bingham. Return transfer.
