Around this large staircase, there are 16 small artificial waterfalls created by cutting the stones into polygonal shapes. All around, there are channels dug in the rock. The water came from a spring located at the back of the Machu Picchu site in an area closed to the public and hidden in the vegetation. From this spring, we follow the canals that ran all over the site to irrigate the city. A system also filtered the rainwater.
