The famous "Tren Macho" covered 128 km through 38 tunnels and 11 bridges between Huancavelica and Huancayo, but has not yet fully resumed operation. Since its resumption in March 2023, the train currently runs Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Departure is at 6:30 a.m. The service is free, but only runs from Chilca (Huancayo) 6:30 a.m.-Cuenca (Huancavelica) 8:30 a.m. and in the opposite direction Cuenca 1:00-2:45 p.m. Chilca. From Cuenca, 2h drive to Huancavelica. Work and improvements are expected in the future.
