PLAZA HUAMANMARCA
The oldest square in Huancayo is surrounded by the main administrative buildings, such as the post office and the town hall. It gained importance when the civic center emerged. It was here that the foundation of the city was sealed in 1572 by Jerónimo de Silva. At that time, it housed a convent and later a church that was destroyed by the earthquake of 1772. The cathedral that replaced it was built in the nearby Plaza Constitución. It is also where the heroes of the Pacific War were shot by the Chileans, as a monument attests.
