The cathedral built by Pizarro was the first to be built on Inca soil. Rebuilt after collapsing in 1836, it is shaped like a Latin cross and proudly displays its elaborate wooden altar, covered with gold leaf, and its painted dome, a feature that makes it unique in Peru. The belfry is modern and in one of the towers is a clock with a chime from 1906. The towers rise majestically to the sky with two angels in high relief. On the upper façade there is a niche that houses the Holy Virgin of the Rosary from Italy.
