It is not uncommon to find Negrito characters in other celebrations or in other regions, but it is undoubtedly the small town of Huanuco that institutionalized this figure in the form of black masks with exaggerated faces, topped by hats with multicolored feathers and hair. Another important figure is that of the butlers with hairy faces in the extreme, representing the Spaniards and the dominant whites. This festival commemorates the freedom given to black slaves with parades and dances. It is now recognized as a national heritage.
