PUENTE CALICANTO
The bridge, built between 1879 and 1884 over the Huallaga River, connects the city centre with the neighbourhoods of brightly painted adobe houses clinging to the Amarilis hill. This structure was built with granite stone, cut and joined with sand, lime and egg white mortar over an extension of 60 meters. Its design has three arches and two central stirrups. It is reminiscent of the Parisian bridges and is one of the only ones of this construction in the whole of the Sierra. A crossing is obviously necessary. A new bridge has been built next to it.
