More than 4 hours drive from Huánuco, at an altitude of 3,900 meters, we find these caves from the lithic period in what would have been a glacial valley. It is also here that the skeletal remains of the oldest men in Peru have been found, dating back some 10,000 years. The discovery of the caves in 1957 was attributed to Alberto Cardich, but studies began two years later by the same discoverer. The nearby lagoon is beautiful and the landscapes authentic, but far from any tourist route.
