TREK DE QUILCAYHUANCA
This trek has the advantage of being close to Huaraz, but of offering an almost total solitude. The departure is the same as for the Churup lake trek. Count S/ 70 by taxi until Pitec and S/ 90 until the entrance of Quilcayhuanca. Be careful, this circuit is not easy!
Thefirst day, we go up the valley to set up camp at 4200 m (5h walk), then 1h30 more for the return trip to the lake located just above. Don't go to the left or you will go up the moraine and arrive above the lake.
On thesecond day (7 to 8 hours walk), you have to go up again in order to pass a pass at 5100 m and to switch to the northwest valley. Be sure to follow the cairns on the way up, so as not to lose the trail. On the steep descent, also be careful to find your way. This passage is perilous and not suitable for everyone. Finally, set up camp in the valley, at 4,300 m, not far from the river.
For thethird and last day, nothing difficult awaits you. It is necessary to go down quietly the curve of the valley (approximately 5h).
Finally, at the exit of the park, you have two possibilities: on the left, you join the parking for the Churup lake and pray that a car stops and brings you back, or on the right, you walk down to Marian (2 more hours). This trek ensures maximum solitude, but requires experience and good physical condition. The reward: the view on the virgin summits of the white cordillera is simply magical!
