In April 1997, an exceptional discovery was made at this site: 219 mummies in a perfect state of preservation and some 3,000 objects from the Inca and Chachapoya cultures were found. In Leymebamba, rent the services of a guide and his horses (the journey is intense, 45 km, about 12 hours) like Jabier Farje Alvarado, +51 967 988 164. Count minimum 1 day to go, 1 day on the spot and 1 day back. Rustic hut on the edge of the lagoon. The site is isolated, splendid, magical, but the walk is hard and muddy. Not to be attempted in the rainy season.
