In addition to the must-see Temple of Sechín, you can also visit the Fortaleza de Chanquillo, located 15 km to the south-east of the city. This fortress of circular and rectangular walls sits atop a hill. It is believed to be an astronomical sanctuary with a solar observatory. Since 2007, the oldest solar calendar in America has been on display, with 2,300 years on the clock! The Pampa de las LLamas and Las Aldas are also home to interesting ruins, albeit poorly preserved due to a lack of research funding.
