TRUJILLO CATHEDRAL

On the vast plaza de Armas, this beautiful church with its ochre yellow walls stands out. Built between 1647 and 1666, it does not stand out from the landscape with its sober façade and its monumental studded wooden door. Inside, the baroque and rococo altarpieces are worth a visit as well as the paintings of the Cusco school such as "La Transverberación" of Santa Teresa y Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo. A small museum of sacred art is also housed there. This cathedral is only open at mass time, at 9am and 6pm, so go a little earlier to enjoy the place before it gets crowded.
