L ISLA DE LOS MONOS
Isla de los Monos is an animal park and farm located in Iquitos. This 450-hectare sanctuary is located in the Amazon jungle, around 30 km from the city. Since 1997, Isla de los Monos has been dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of New World monkeys that have fallen victim to illegal animal trafficking. During your visit, you can observe different species of monkeys in their natural habitat, and learn more about how young monkeys are cared for so that they grow up strong, healthy and independent. To get to Isla de los Monos, you can take a fast boat from the port of Productores in Iquitos to the island, then walk about 20 minutes through the Amazon jungle to the center. Entry costs 50 soles for foreigners and 30 soles for Peruvians. Reservations are not required. Isla de los Monos also offers volunteer opportunities for those wishing to enjoy the unique experience of working and living alongside monkeys in the Amazon jungle.
