The oldest of Brussels' folk traditions! Every year, the May tree is planted, accompanied by a procession.

Brussels' oldest folk tradition! There are many legends about the origins of this celebration, which dates back to 1308. One thing is certain: on that day, Brussels won out over the city of Leuven. Since then, seven centuries of folklore have followed. Every year (except 2020), the Meyboom (May tree) is planted before 5 p.m., otherwise the advantage would revert to the Leuveners. As this has never happened before, we don't really know what would happen in that case... Procession departs from: rue des Marais.

The plantation " meyboom" by the Inhabitants Of Brussels before 17:00 to keep the right! Folk event typical Brussels where you can find, in addition to tourists, many of Brussels pure stock with their zwanze... (way of speaking) Costumes, hats and beer. Not to be missed!
