ROYAL LÉOPOLD CLUB
You might not want to show up here in cut-off jean shorts and Oakland Raiders' jersey. This has been blue blood country since 1893, and it will stay that way for centuries to come. Although hockey has brought the club quite a bit of fame locally, it's tennis that has harvested glory and consideration internationally. President Philippe Washer is a former member of our celebrated (and rare) Davis Cup heroes. Incidentally, 62 Davis Cup matches were played here between 1919 and 1997. The setting is pretty breathtaking, in a green residential area, with about 1200 outdoor courts and 8 covered. The club house is exactly like what you would expect, with a restaurant, a bar, two terraces, a gym, meeting rooms, and a separate space for bridge players waiting for the kids to return from tennis lessons provided by a dozen of pros. Oh dear! Ever so proper.
