ST-JACQUES-S/COUDENBERG
Royal and Armed Forces Church, its neoclassical façade evokes a Greco-Roman temple. Polyphonic mass every month.
On 21 July 1831, Leopold I, the first king of the Belgians, took the constitutional oath on a platform set up in front of the church. The façade, in neoclassical style like the square on which it stands, evokes a Greco-Roman temple. It was converted into the Temple of Reason and then into the Temple of the Law during the French Revolution, before being returned to Catholic worship in 1802. The pediment was topped with a domed bell tower in the 19th century. On the road to Compostela, the church is a royal parish and the cathedral of the armed forces.
