One of the oldest churches in Brussels is full of contrasts: its façade is modern, but its choir dates from the 14th century.

What a contrast between the venerable age of this church and its appearance! Dedicated to Saint Nicholas, patron saint of merchants, it is one of the oldest churches in Brussels (1125) but has been altered so many times, the last time in 1956, that it has changed a lot. Don't be fooled by its severe facade, when you enter it, you discover a choir dating from 1381, but the most surprising thing is its slightly sloping nave which bears witness to the church's troubled history. Look closely: embedded in a wall you will see a cannonball from the bombing of Brussels in 1695.
