The so-called Berlaymont building houses the headquarters of the European Commission. Built in 1967, its asymmetrical cross shape and underlying esplanade are typical of the 1960s. A curiosity is that only its central axis touches the ground! Emptied in 1991, renovated from 1995 to 2004, it was cleared of asbestos before returning to its original function. The Berlaymont owes its name to the convent of canonesses founded in 1625 and which moved in 1962. It is located on the edge of the Schuman roundabout, from where it offers its most beautiful views.
