OAKWOOD HOTEL :
A lovely little hotel from the national Mada chain, right in the center of Nairobi, very well kept and affordable. The colonial-style interior is all oak (as the name suggests). Small but airy, notably with its restaurant/breakfast room on the interior half-terrace, it's a pleasant space, without luxury but quite correct and with a vaguely old-fashioned charm, with its elevator and decoration. More homely and welcoming than most of Nairboi's hotels, it's a very good option both for its ambience and its location. For a quiet night's sleep, prefer rooms facing the rear, as the main street is quite noisy, especially at weekends, when it's one of the centers of nightlife.
HOTEL LA MADA
In the middle of a small 7-hectare private forest, this hotel surrounded by monkeys is one of the few establishments in Nairobi that is both close to the center and to nature. It is 8 km from the center, 17 km from Nairobi National Park and the elephant orphanage, and 5 km from the National Museum and the Giraffe Center. This is a superior hotel, with rooms all equipped with Internet and impeccable service. On-site, a fairly good restaurant. Book in advance, as there are only 35 rooms.
FIG TREE CAMP
A very welcoming and comfortable camp, run by the La Mada chain. You can opt for either superior tents or cabins. In either case, you'll enjoy a superb view, as this place is surrounded by the Talek River. In the evening, you're sure to hear many suspicious noises, such as the grunting of hippos and other monkeys cooling off on the banks of the Talek. With its stunning surroundings, the camp also specializes in hot-air balloon safaris every three days, at an admittedly high price ($425/person), but worth it for the panorama alone. Comparatively speaking, it serves one of the best buffets in the Massai Mara Park.
KILIFI BEACH RESORT
For a seaside vacation, this is one of the best choices on the coast. This quiet little paradise halfway between Mombasa and Malindi is a most charming place. From the white of the fine sand, to the blue of the magnificent swimming pool and turquoise water, to the orange-red of dusk, the colors are a festival!
The bungalows and villas scattered along the coast are both simple and comfortable.
The quality of the meals and the beauty of the all-you-can-eat buffets are particularly noteworthy. Every Saturday evening, the hotel hosts a beach party on a huge elevated terrace. Kilifi bay also offers low-cost excursions. Every day, local organizers offer snake petting, aqua aerobics and African dance demonstrations. Massages are free and unlimited.
BAOBAD SEA LODGE
Based on the same principle as Kilifi Beach Bay Resort and belonging to the same La Mada group, this small hotel, while a little less charming than its brother, also boasts a tennis court and a live music band in the evenings. All rooms feature air conditioning, private balcony, tea, coffee and more. Numerous activities on offer, including windsurfing, fishing and water sports. The main attraction is that you're in the heart of a 7-hectare tropical garden. Great playground for children, family atmosphere.
