Occupying a very strong position, at the top of a granite pit dominating the Seuge basin, Esplantas Castle was built by Odilo de Mercœur, bishop of Mende from 1247 to 1274 to protect the southern flank of its saugaines possessions. After more than years of long and meticulous repairs, the castle registered at the Additional Inventory of Historical Monuments has regained its splendour.
