SIMALE CAMP SITE
Located on the west side of Mount Nyiro, Tuum is a mini-community in the samburu territory, which is organized mainly around a Presbyterian mission. Stephen and Angelina Cowan are installed here and founded a family. What they have been able to put in place is quite surprising. They have launched a number of programmes which fully involve local communities. Thus, they made it possible to treat or protect herds against various diseases, to introduce techniques of micro-irrigation in five villages around, to develop new techniques with materials available in situ, to promote the crafts of villages assisting their "emancipation", to support five families for the maintenance of roads and thus to provide for the financing of higher education for their children, about 500 kg of honey (not frankly famous) per month… Finally, what might potentially interest the traveler lost in a hostile «no where»: Stephen Cowan has opened a workshop where he can teach the mechanics (you can take a few repairs to your vehicle) and Angelina is in charge of the camping and small cottages for rent. Despite its isolation, the place seems ideal to come to the family. Also possible to walk on foot or slug.
