MIDA CREEK
A protected wilderness where you can observe a multitude of sedentary and migratory birds, as well as numerous aquatic animals.
It's a protected wilderness, absolutely magical. A large bay of 32 km², surrounded by mangroves, where an exceptional fauna has developed. The bay is home to a multitude of sedentary and migratory birds (marabouts, flamingos, herons, kingfishers, terns...) and numerous aquatic animals living in the tangle of mangrove roots (crabs, shrimps, crayfish, oysters, various species of fish...). It's also in the heart of the mangrove that the young coral begins its existence, before the high tides carry it out to sea, to the reef where it can proliferate. Walking along the banks, you may come face to face with a monitor or a mongoose. Various species of monkey and antelope also live around the bay. Finally, near the mouth, experienced divers can visit immense underwater caves haunted by enormous groupers. A boat trip at the end of the day, when the setting sun transforms the colors of the water and sky, remains one of the most beautiful ways to discover the bay. We highly recommend exploring the bay by kayak: the many small canals and passages through the mangrove swamps add to the enchanting charm of the trip. Stand-up paddling (SUP) is also very popular. Most of the major hotels organize excursions. Alternatively, you can contact the Mida Creek Conservation Community Group directly using the contact details provided.
