The Virgin of Carmen, patron saint of sailors and fishermen, is honoured in pious processions in the ports and at sea.
The Virgin of Carmen, patron saint of fishermen and sailors, is celebrated in all the seaside towns and villages of Spain every 16th July. According to tradition, on this day the Virgin blesses all the workers of the sea who have lost their lives at sea. The festival takes place in several parts of the island. The procession of the image of the Virgin in a boat in the port of Ibiza or Sant Antoni, but also on the beaches of Portinatx and Es Cubells, is particularly noteworthy.
