ARCHITECTURAL COMPLEX OF BALÀFIA
A group of traditional houses with two circular defensive towers, one of the examples of peasant architecture
The Balàfia complex, probably built under Muslim rule, is one of the finest examples of peasant architecture. It consists of five traditional houses guarded by two circular defensive towers that served as refuges in case of Turkish or Berber attacks. Walking through the few narrow streets of the medieval village, you will notice the large white crosses painted with lime on the stone walls, a blessing intended to chase away evil spirits.
