PORTINATX TOWER
Tower used as a defense against pirate attacks, with two floors topped by an upper platform
Dating from 1763, the Portinatx tower was part of the coastal defence system against pirate attacks. It is located almost 45 metres above sea level, at the Punta de Portinatx. Its architecture is similar to that of the neighbouring Balansat tower and was designed by the engineer Juan Ballester y Zafra: the tower consists of two floors with an upper platform. The part closest to the ground used to house the gunpowder store. The tower was later converted into a house.
