CHAPEL SA TANCA VELLA
This tiny Romanesque chapel in the heart of the village of Sant Francesc was declared a monument of cultural interest in 1993.
Next to a large dirt parking lot (and skate park!), this tiny Romanesque chapel, founded in 1336, is the island's first Christian sanctuary. Its rectangular, barrel-vaulted structure, devoid of all ornament, bears witness to its sobriety. Deemed too small to accommodate the faithful, it was abandoned in the 18th century in favor of the neighboring church. Attached to the house that gave it its name, Sa Tanca Vella, it was acquired by the town in 1986, restored and classified as a monument of cultural interest in 1993. It is protected by iron gates.
