CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA
Church with a sober facade offering an excellent view on 2 towers of the old fortifications
Approached from the valley and the road to Port Andratx, this church, founded in 1248, looks like a citadel, an impregnable fortress, as its walls are so high and devoid of openings, except for the square skylights at the top of the side walls. A sober façade, devoid of decoration, without any particular sculpture. A bull's eye surmounts a portal with an ogival arch. From the tiny square in front of the door, you have an excellent view of two towers of the old fortifications that protected Andratx from pirate plunder.
