VALLDEMOSSA CHARTERHOUSE
Carthusian monastery with a church, a pharmacy and a library in the monks' house exhibiting many souvenirs
This former monastery, originally a royal residence, was inhabited by Carthusian monks from 1399 to 1835. The Carthusian monastery welcomed the pianist Frédéric Chopin and the writer George Sand during the winter of 1838-1839. You will first notice the neoclassical church, then a very beautiful 18th century pharmacy, the priory cells with their splendid ceramics, the library and finally the cells where Frederic Chopin and George Sand lived. Many souvenirs are on display.
