Ruins of an ancient fortress near 400 m altitude offering an opportunity for hiking
A visit to the Castell del Rei, the ruins of an ancient fortress located on a spectacular rocky promontory 492 metres above sea level, is a hike that takes some time and requires good physical fitness. The site was already known to the Romans, but was also one of the last bastions of Muslim resistance (along with the castle of Alaró) to the reconquest of Mallorca by Jaume I in 1229. The castle was abandoned in the eighteenth century. Note that a permit is required at the tourist office or on the website of the town hall.
