CHURCH OF SANT FRANCESC

The church of Sant Francesc, overlooking the town of Maó, was founded in 1459 by the Franciscan friar Bartomeu Catany, before being destroyed by Barbarossa's Turkish troops and rebuilt in the 18th century (from 1719). The Franciscans were expelled from the island in 1835. The church was looted during the civil war (1936). Its Gothic vaults make it one of the finest examples of Menorcan religious architecture. Beautiful view of the port and harbor from the nearby terrace.
