CATEDRAL DE MENORCA
Visit the cathedral of Ciutadella, which preserves part of the minaret of the mosque once built on this site
Built in the 13th century on the site of a mosque by King Alfonso III of Aragon (following the reconquest of the island in 1287), Ciutadella Cathedral, typical of Catalan Gothic architecture, was not completed until the 15th century. Its façade, however, dates from the 18th century. Dedicated to Santa Maria, it preserves part of the minaret of the former mosque. The main portal and the chapel of Santíssim are neoclassical, while the chapel of les Ànimes is Baroque. In the chapter house, a small museum displays liturgical objects.
