As anyone who has read any of Jorge Amado's works will know, Arab culture and cuisine have been very present in Brazil for almost a century, when the first members of the Syrian-Lebanese community arrived. Amir is certainly one of the city's best Arab restaurants... and it's true that there aren't that many in Rio. The weekday menu is Lebanese-inspired (hummus, falafel, esfiha - salted cake - around a very good all-you-can-eat buffet) and the weekend speciality is an excellent Moroccan couscous.
