FAVELA EXPERIENCE VIDIGAL

Housing. You can stay either in the youth hostel (dormitory rooms and well-kept double rooms) or in the living room or in individual apartments. At home, we sleep at Maria Clara Dos Santos (in Rocinha, the neighboring favela), mother of five children known as the "mano santa" the holy hand, for his medicinal herbs. She also takes care of daughter-mothers of the favela, a true social activist.

Activities. You can discover La Favela on foot with the youth of the neighborhood, like the nearby favela, the immense Rocinha. True solidarity tourism, managed by the inhabitants of the favela themselves and very professional. A beautiful human experience. And what an unforgettable view! Transport. Taxis refusing to go to favelas, you must know that during the day the descent to the beautiful beach is fast. We can also at the bottom, at the largo of Vidigal find mini-vans and taxis that leave for the center. And if you prefer not to get tired to go up, mini-vans always make the trip/return by passing in front of the hostel. You won't have trouble taking them (a little sign of the hand is enough). When you return, you can find mini-vans and motorcycles 24 h/24 in the same place to get into the favela, so there is no risk. You just have to be afraid to take a motorcycle taxi and hang on.
