DIA DA INDEPENDÊNCIA

Independence Day is a particularly festive event.
This is Brazil's national holiday, celebrating the country's independence on September 7, 1822, when the future emperor Dom Pedro I refused to return to Portugal. It was introduced in 1949. The event is celebrated throughout Brazil, and particularly in the country's major metropolises. As is often the case, however, the beauty of Rio's natural setting adds an extra dimension, and it is here that it takes on its most beautiful colors. There's a grand military parade on Avenida Presidente Vargas and an air show on Copacabana!
