Among the GRES samba schools that dominate the carnival, the Estaçao Primeira de Mangueira, simply called Mangueira, is certainly one of the most important. It is almost the equivalent of Flamengo for "futebol", although its colors are green and pink, the colors of Fluminense. Mangueira has been a 19-time winner (the last title won was in 2016). Founded in 1928, it is certainly the most mythical school in Rio de Janeiro, that of the master Cartola.
