The Acorda Capoeira association was founded 20 years ago in the Rocinha favela. Capoeira master Mestre Manel created the association to recreate a social fabric in this favela, the largest in Brazil, which had been abandoned by the public services. Beyond the practice of capoeira, self-esteem and respect for others are at the heart of this project. The association works in schools, promoting integration through theater and capoeira performances. Capoeira shows can be seen in the pacified Rocinha favela.
