MONUMENTO AOS PRACINHAS
Quite a majestic monument, including a museum and a mausoleum with the remains of several Brazilian soldiers
Built in 1960, the rather majestic monument to the dead of the Second World War (on the Aterro de Flamengo, after Santos-Dumont airport towards the Zona Sul) includes a museum presenting the glories of the Brazilian army during the Second World War, as well as a mausoleum with the remains of some Brazilian soldiers who took part in the 1944 Italian campaign on the side of the Allies. The Americans had urged the Brazilians to join the Allies, while Getulio Vargas hesitated between the two camps.
