Brazil is a federal country. Each state, endowed with numerous powers, therefore elects its representatives, who make up the Legislative Assembly of each of the 26 Brazilian states. For the State of Rio, this beautiful neoclassical monument, inaugurated in 1926, is the seat of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Fluminense (the name of the state's inhabitants). The first floor features a small exhibition tracing the political history of Brazil and the State of Rio, as well as the creation of the palace.
