215-step staircase, a tribute to the Brazilian people, decorated with azulejos by Chilean painter Jorge Selarón

In 1990, the late Chilean painter Jorge Selarón embarked on the Grande Loucura (Great Madness): decorating the stairs of an entire street between Santa Teresa and Lapa, in homage to the Brazilian people. Fascinated by azulejos, he covered the 215 steps of this staircase with them. The tiles come from all over the world, sent by visitors who have fallen under the spell of this work, or gleaned by the artist himself. An ideal end to a visit to Santa Teresa, it will take you to the rua Joaquim Silva, in Lapa.

superb! do is staircase in the district of lapa adorns by the Chilean artist selaron (very nice D elsewhere) are splendid you can see all the work of the artist at the foot of stairs do is magnificent! this place has to visit
