ARCOS DA LAPA
Aqueduct with white arches, 1.7 km long, where the tramway runs from the center to Santa Teresa
Built in 1744, this aqueduct is one of the main spatial markers of Rio. The setting is a typical example of the city's architectural "fusion", mixing the modernism of the Petrobras headquarters with the futurism of the São Sebastião Metropolitan Cathedral. The white arches of the aqueduct and the esplanade in front of it form a real movie set. The tramway(bonde) from the center to Santa Teresa passes over this arch. A 1.7 km section has been reopened to Largo do Guimarães. However, the neighborhood is not very safe.
