MUSEU CASA RUI BARBOSA

Born in 1849, Bahian-born Rui Barbosa worked as a jurisconsult, journalist, politician and diplomat, and was directly involved in some of the founding events of Brazilian history. Built in 1849, the house in which the museum is housed, in which Rui Barbosa lived out his last 28 years, is a superb example of 19th-century neoclassical Carioca architecture. The museum exhibits an important collection of furniture, objects and paintings, as well as a sumptuous period library. Beautiful museum grounds.
