This beautiful 19th-century mansion, once owned by the Marquis of São Vicente, houses the museum on the site of a former coffee fazenda, later acquired by the Count of Santa Marinha. The museum presents the history of the city of Rio, from its foundation in 1565 to the mid-20th century, through almost 17,000 exhibits, including numerous paintings by artists such as Taunay, Grandjean de Montigny and Visconti, furniture and photographs.
