MUSEU DA REPÚBLICA - PALÁCIO DO CATETE
Presidential palace decorated in period style, housing a museum and a magnificent park crowned with superb imperial palms
This is the former palace of the Presidents of the Republic of Brazil, built in 1867, before the capital was transferred to Brasilia in 1960. Originally a private residence, the palace retains its period decor. At the end of the tour, you can see Getúlio Vargas's bedroom as it was left on the day of his suicide on August 24, 1954. Before leaving, take a stroll through the museum's magnificent park, crowned with imperial palms.
