FLAMENCO PARK
Flamengo Park, one of the Cariocas' favorite places to run, play soccer or tennis, or just stroll through the greenery
Flamengo Park is an artificial overhang of land on the sea(aterro) designed in 1965. It stretches from Santos-Dumont airport in the city center to the beginning of Botafogo Bay, and marks the entrance to the city's chic southern districts. This 1.2 million m² urban garden was designed by Brazilian architect and landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. It's one of the Cariocas' favourite places to run, play soccer or tennis, or stroll through its greenery (especially on Sundays, when the avenue is closed to traffic).
