PRAIA DE RAMOS
Artificial lake created by the municipality, allowing residents of the southern zone to cool off
The praia de Ramos is the large, beautiful artificial beach in Rio's Zona Norte, in the Maré district. An artificial lake, nicknamed piscinão, was created here by the municipality in 2001 to enable the inhabitants of this deprived area to cool off without having to take a 2-hour bus ride to the more upscale beaches of the Zona Sul. As is often the case with points of interest in the northern zone, these places are not very well known, and tourists and residents of the southern zone don't go there for safety reasons. The places are not very safe.
