PEDRA BONITA AND PEDRA DA GÁVEA
Specialized agencies in Rio organizing guided hikes at reasonable prices combining Pedra Bonita and Pedra da Gávea
This is the area of the national park closest to the ocean, on the heights overlooking the São Conrado district. The section up to Pedra da Gávea is the most recommended for a day hike. It offers sublime panoramas. Specialized agencies in Rio organize guided hikes several times a week for a reasonable price, combining Pedra Bonita and Pedra da Gávea.
Pedra Bonita. At the end of the Estrada da Vista Chinesa, take the Estrada da Gávea Pequena, then the Estada da Pedra Bonita. You can leave your car at the parking lot near the many hang-gliders and paragliders who come here to take to the skies. Then it's up to Pedra Bonita, along a short path that takes around 50 minutes, and leads to the top of this "Beautiful Stone", where you can enjoy an incredible view of the São Conrado district to the east, and Barra da Tijuca to the west. A beautiful, easy walk for the whole family! Beware: some passages border on favelas. Find out more if you decide to set off without a guide.
Pedra da Gávea. At an altitude of 800 m, this is the most spectacular viewpoint, offering panoramic views of Ipanema, Leblon, São Conrado and Barra de Tijuca. The hike is quite difficult because of the altitude difference, especially in the heat, but it's perfectly feasible and highly recommended! Allow a full day for the hike.
