As its name suggests, "the Backers" is not just a bakery. In addition to excellent breads and sandwiches, there's also a pastry shop that has been delighting Cariocas since 1994. It's a great place for a midday snack or a late afternoon snack. In a room that seats around a hundred, you can also enjoy savoury dishes such as quiches and pizzas. Owned by the Kurt family, Rio's best-known pastry chefs, it is regularly voted the city's best bakery.
