Confeitaria Colombo is one of Rio's finest pastry shops. Founded in 1894 by Portuguese immigrants, its Belle Époque architecture evokes the Paris of the Roaring Twenties. Magnificent Antwerp crystal mirrors add a delicate Art Deco touch. The Salão superior dates from 1922. Lunch and the buffet, served upstairs, are well worth the trip. Excellent pastries, including Portuguese pasteis, can be sampled at teatime on the first floor near the grand piano. Cultural events are organized on a regular basis.
