BANANAL
Banana cove with beaches, offering a popular walk from the village to the Mirante do Bananal viewpoint
This banana-growing cove includes the beaches of Bananal, Jaconema and Matariz, popular (alas) with saveiros departing from Abraão. It owes its name to the former banana plantation that existed at the Freguesia de Santana. Its history is rather unusual. Indeed, its inhabitants are all descendants of Japanese immigrants who came to work in the island's sardine factories. From the village, a family walk leads to the Mirante do Bananal viewpoint. There are two beautiful walks leading to the Freguesia de Santana and Sitio Forte.
